Catherine Seidenberg has been working with us at Arcana since 2000, as our perennial manager and resident potter. She previously taught pottery at the UVM pottery cooperative for three years, and has over fourteen years of perennial gardening and landscaping experience. She divides her time on the farm between throwing flower pots (winter), glazing and firing them (spring), along with perennial managing and maintenance (February to October). She tends three different gardens on the property and cares for our entire collection of potted perennials—which is constantly expanding!
She creates all of her flowerpots at our own studio at the farm, which is equipped with a wheel, slab roller, extruder, and 21-cubic foot downdraft propane-fired kiln. Almost all of the pots draw inspiration from the world of plants, and bear the prints of rosemary, sage, or other leaves. All glazed stoneware pots are fired to cone 10 reduction. If you would like to chat about clay, and/or have a studio tour, stop by the farm any time, or call ahead and make an appointment.
